Colostrum

What is colostrum?

Colostrum is the antibody-rich fluid produced from a baby goat or calf's mothers' mammary glands during the first few days after birth. The young animals can absorb these antibodies whole, which provide immunity and protection from certain infections for several weeks.

Older animals cannot absorb antibodies as young animals can, however colostrum is still able to exert a local anti-inflammatory effect in the intestinal tract when ingested. There is also evidence that colostrum may increase the effectiveness of some vaccinations, improve the immune response against certain viruses, support gut microflora, improve bone and muscle function in older animals, and supportively treat periodontal disease in dogs and cats.

Benefits of adding colostrum to your pet's diet

Colostrum should be added when your pet's immune system is low. This may be due to over vaccinations, allergies, poor diet, trauma and so on.

Adding this supplement for a number of weeks to your pet' diet will help with :

- Fighting and eliminating allergy sympthoms. Colostrum is well known for its role in helping dogs and cats with allergies. It helps with allergies because it’s a potent immune modulator.

- Optimising absorption of vitamins and minerals from food and offering natural resistance from various pathogens that enter your pet's gut.

- Boost the immune system and therefore building the immune system to be strong enough to fight against illnesses.

- Reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease. It is also known to repair heart tissue.

- Lactoferrin is a protein found in colostrum. This protein is antiviral, antimicrobial, anti fungal and anti parasitic. It helps eliminate pathogens that trigger inflammation. It also has anti tumor effects. Lactoferrin also helps fight against yeast.
