Frequently asked questions
Because every dog and cat is an individual, the best way to get started on a raw diet is to visit us in the shop so we can guide you properly. While it's easy to say, "Just start with white meats," there's more to it than that—especially for first-time raw feeders.
Each pet has different needs, and factors like age, health conditions, previous diet, and sensitivities all play a role in how to transition safely. When you come in, we’ll take the time to explain the transition process, what to expect during detox, and how to make sure your dog or cat is getting everything they need from day one.
We're here to make the switch to raw feeding smooth, safe, and successful for both you and your pet.

🐾 How much should I feed my dog or cat?
How much to feed depends on your pet’s age, weight, activity level, and health. A good starting point when feeding a fresh, raw, or homemade diet is to feed a percentage of their ideal adult body weight, then adjust as needed. Here’s a general guide:
Adult pets at a healthy weight: Feed 2.5% of their ideal body weight daily.
Pets that need to lose weight, Feed 2%,
Pets that need to gain weight, Feed 3%
👉 Check the graph on the right-hand side for for puppies and kittens.
Example: Let’s say your dog’s ideal weight is 20 kg, and they need to lose weight.20 kg × 2% = 0.4 kg (or 400 grams) of food per day. This can be split into two meals of 200 grams each. Always observe your pet’s body condition and energy levels, and adjust portions accordingly.
For growing puppies or underweight pets, increase the percentage gradually and monitor their progress. For personalized advice, especially if feeding raw or home-prepared meals, it’s best to consult a our in house qualified pet nutritionist.

Yes, we do! We cater for both dogs and cats with complete raw food options.
For cats, we offer two choices: meals with supplements and without. Why both? Because every cat is different. For example, a cat with thyroid issues should avoid kelp, so in that case, the unsupplemented option would be more suitable.
If your cat has any medical conditions, we strongly recommend visiting us at the shop so we can guide you on the safest and most appropriate choice for their needs.
🐾 My dog or cat has allergies can I leave them on one protein only?
We don’t recommend feeding only one protein long-term, even if your dog or cat has allergies. A single-protein diet can lead to nutritional deficiencies over time, especially in essential amino acids, vitamins, and minerals that are naturally found in a variety of meats and organs.
In extreme cases, where your pet must stay on one protein due to allergy management, we strongly recommend supporting the diet with the right supplements to avoid imbalances.
✅ In these cases, we suggest adding:
Complete Boost – our all-in-one multivitamin & mineral blend
Kelp – for natural iodine, trace minerals, and skin support
Omega Oil – to support skin, coat, joints, and reduce inflammation

Yes, we do offer boneless meals! These can be served raw or cooked, depending on your preference.
However, if you're feeding boneless raw meals and not including any bones, it's essential to add our Venison Bone Meal Powder to ensure your dog gets the necessary calcium. Without it, their diet will be lacking in this crucial mineral.
We have a variety of boneless meal options available. The best way to check what's in stock is to send us a WhatsApp message at 99253089 or visit us at the shop. If you come by, we’ll be happy to guide you on which supplements your dog might need based on their individual requirements.
If your dog or cat doesn’t want to eat their raw food, don’t worry—this can happen for a number of reasons, and it’s usually easy to sort out once we identify the cause. Here are the most common reasons:
Overfeeding – This is something we see very often. When pets are fed more than they need, their bodies may already have enough nutrients, and they naturally start turning food away. Sometimes owners misread their pet’s behaviour and offer even more food, which can make things worse. Feeding the right amount for their size, age, and activity level is key to keeping them interested and healthy.
Lack of variety – If your pet has been on a single protein for too long, their body might be signalling that it needs something different. In nature, dogs and cats eat a variety of prey—not just one type of meat. Rotating proteins helps maintain nutritional balance and keeps meals exciting.
Constipation – If your pet is new to raw feeding, they may not be used to the firmer stools that come with a raw diet. In some cases, this can lead to mild constipation, which might affect their appetite. On warmer days they may also be a bit dehydrated which may lead to constipation. As they age their body needs more muscle meat and less bone. If you suspect your dog or cat is constipated, please speak to us. We can guide you with gentle, natural solutions to help get things moving comfortably.
Unfamiliar texture or temperature – Some pets may be unsure about the texture or temperature of raw food at first. Try warming the food slightly (never cooking it) to release aromas and make it more appealing. You can also ask us about adding bone broth, which helps boost flavour and hydration. If you're transitioning from another food, gradually mix a little of their old food into the raw, and slowly reduce it over time.
Preference for chunks over mince – In the wild, dogs and cats hunt, chew, and tear at their food. Some pets instinctively prefer chunks of meat over minced meals. If this might be the case, we can recommend chunkier options or raw meaty bones that suit their natural preferences.
If you're unsure why your pet isn’t eating, pop into the shop and speak to us—we're always here to help with personalised advice.
That’s not a simple yes or no answer—every dog and cat is an individual, with unique needs based on factors like age, breed, health status, lifestyle, and what they’re currently eating. Some pets may benefit from specific supplements, while others may get everything they need from a balanced, species-appropriate diet.
To make sure your dog or cat is getting the right support, you can speak with our qualified nutritionist. She can assess your pet’s specific needs and help determine whether supplements are necessary for their overall health and wellbeing.
🐾 Can my dog or cat get salmonella or worms from eating raw?
This is a common concern, but the truth might surprise you: dogs are actually more likely to be exposed to harmful bacteria like salmonella or parasites from processed dry (kibble) or wet food than from properly prepared raw food.
🔍 Here’s why:
Dry and canned pet foods are legally allowed to include 4D meats — animals that are dead, dying, diseased, or disabled. These lower-quality meats can carry pathogens and parasites.
A 2014 FDA study found salmonella contamination in over 25 brands of dry pet food, and several pet food recalls have been due to salmonella or mold toxins in kibble — not raw.
Dogs fed highly processed diets often have a weaker immune system, gut imbalance, and chronic inflammation, making them more vulnerable to foodborne pathogens.
In contrast, healthy dogs fed a balanced raw diet have stronger stomach acid and a more resilient immune system, both of which help naturally protect against bacteria like salmonella.
✅ Our Commitment to Safety:
We are licensed to produce raw pet food under strict hygiene and food safety standards.
We use only human-grade meats, not pet-grade or waste products.
We conduct random batch testing by independent labs to ensure the safety and quality of our products.
For a more detailed explanation (with sources), check out our in-depth post by clicking here When raw feeding is done right, it’s not only safe — it’s species-appropriate, nutrient-dense, and supports long-term health.
Yes, our whole raw meaty bones are safe to feed your dog or cat—and they play a crucial role in promoting dental hygiene by naturally cleaning teeth and strengthening gums through chewing.
It’s very important to understand that bones should never be cooked, dehydrated, or steamed, as these processes make them brittle and prone to splintering, which can lead to choking, blockages, or internal injuries. All of our meaty bones are raw and carefully selected to be the appropriate size for dogs of all sizes.
We also do not sell weight-bearing bones, such as marrow or femur bones. These are extremely dense and can fracture teeth or become stuck around the jaw, often requiring surgical intervention to remove. For your pet’s safety, we avoid them entirely.
Additionally, we do not sell rawhide chews. Rawhides are made through a harsh chemical process, can contain toxic residues, and are difficult to digest, posing serious risks such as choking, intestinal blockages, and digestive irritation.
We only offer safe, species-appropriate options that support your dog or cat’s health naturally.
Can I mix dry food with raw?
We don’t recommend mixing raw and dry food in the same meal. While some dogs may tolerate it, others can experience digestive upset like vomiting or diarrhoea, especially during the transition period. This is often because the body is trying to detox from processed food, and the combination of raw with carb-heavy kibble can slow digestion and cause imbalance.
Dry food is high in carbohydrates and fillers, which can interfere with the way raw food is digested.
That said, we understand that feeding 100% raw isn’t always possible for everyone — and a little fresh food is better than none at all.
✅ If you need to combine both, and your dog tolerates it, we suggest feeding raw and dry food in separate meals (e.g., raw in the morning, kibble in the evening).
To boost nutrition without fully switching, you can also add healthy raw toppers like:
🥚 Quail eggs
🐟 Sardines
🦴 Duck necks
❤️ Beef heart treats
These are a great way to add fresh benefits without fully committing to a raw diet right away. Its very important that if your dogs or cats are experiencing digestive issues to stop the dry food immediately. Speak to our inhouse nutritionist to guide you further.

We understand that sometimes purchases don’t go as planned, but unfortunately, we do not accept returns on food or supplements. This is because we follow strict HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) regulations to ensure the highest standards of safety and hygiene. While products are under our control — whether in-store or in our delivery vans — everything is closely monitored, including temperature, handling, and storage conditions. Once a product leaves our premises, we lose traceability, and we cannot guarantee that it has been stored safely or hygienically. For this reason, we are legally and ethically unable to resell returned items, even if they appear unopened. We appreciate your understanding and your commitment to keeping all pets safe and healthy.
