Our passion for pets has transformed into something that compels us to actively work to make their lives better. We created Betty's Raw Recipes to do one thing and that is to make your pets as happy and healthy as possible. The inspiration behind the brand name comes from our sweet rescue dog Betty. She was abandoned with a massive tumour and a badly infected uterus. After a dedicated vet and two loving volunteer took it upon themselves to operate her and give her a second chance, we decided to foster her until her forever home was found. Betty decided that her forever home was along side her furry brothers Ollie and Benji. This video was done to commemorate her 3 years with us.

The Story Behind Our Name

Following the success of Betty’s Raw Recipes, we soon realised that good nutrition was only one piece of the puzzle. There was a clear need for clean, natural supplements, gentle grooming products and truly healthy treats — products made without unnecessary fillers, artificial additives or hidden “nasties.”

As our range continued to grow, trademark challenges with the Betty’s name led us to create something new — a brand that could carry our values forward while still staying true to where we came from.

And so, Pawtese was born.

The name brings together “Paws” and “Maltese” — a little piece of Malta at the heart of a brand created for the paws we love.

Today, Pawtese represents everything we believe in: natural, honest and effective care for dogs and cats. Every product we create is shaped by our journey, inspired by our own pets and rooted in our commitment to helping animals live healthier, happier lives.

Our mission is simple: to help pets live healthier, happier lives through better nutrition and naturally focused care. At Betty’s Raw Recipes and Pawtese, we are dedicated to promoting pet wellbeing through biologically appropriate nutrition, while using our studies, research and experience to raise awareness about the importance of what we feed our pets. We carefully select genuine, high-quality ingredients, including human-grade meats free from added hormones, antibiotics, artificial additives and preservatives, together with fresh, nutritious vegetables. From our complete raw meals and natural treats to our supplements and care products, everything we create is guided by the same philosophy: every ingredient should have a nutritional or functional purpose. We do not believe in unnecessary fillers or artificial colours, flavours and preservatives, and our recipes are free from corn, wheat, soy and potato. Instead, we focus on naturally derived nutrients and wholesome ingredients that support overall wellbeing, digestion, immune health, lean muscle, and healthy skin and coat. Because for us, it has never been about simply creating pet products — it is about giving our pets the quality of life they deserve.

Meet the Founder

Behind Betty’s Raw Recipes and Pawtese is Nicole Agius, a qualified canine and feline nutritionist in Malta, whose passion for animal health has led her to dedicate years to studying and researching pet nutrition.

Nicole’s journey began with a desire to better understand the powerful connection between nutrition, health and longevity. Over the years, she has studied canine and feline nutrition extensively, with particular focus on species-appropriate feeding, digestion, the microbiome, immunity and the role nutrition can play in supporting long-term health.

Her approach combines education, continuous research and real-world experience, with one fundamental belief at its core: nutrition should be built around the individual animal, not simply convenience.

This philosophy became the foundation of Betty’s Raw Recipes and later Pawtese, allowing Nicole to turn her knowledge and passion into products created with purpose. From raw nutrition to supplements, treats and natural care, every decision is guided by the same goal — to provide pet parents with better choices and help dogs and cats live healthier, happier lives.

For Nicole, this is more than a business. It is a lifelong commitment to learning, educating and improving the way we care for our pets.
